Two of my favorite funny women star in Baby Mama. A comedy that mixes babies, two entirely different women and a funny supporting cast.

Kate Holbrook (Tina Fey) is a successful career woman that has everything except what she truly wants; a child. When she discovers that she’s infertile, she hires Angie Ostrowiski (Amy Poehler) to be her surrogate. They experience ups and downs after Angie moves in with Kate and, also, a few surprises along the way.

It’s clear from this film that Fey and Poehler are good friends. Even when their characters are hating each other. This chemistry translates well in the film. Poehler and Fey work well together and I hope to see them as leading ladies opposite one another in other movies.

Baby Mama is funny, no doubt. Tina Fey is hilarious as usual. Though, at times, her character reminded me of Liz Lemon from 30 Rock. They’re both career women who want someone more meaningful in their life. I really hope that Fey doesn’t get type cast into roles. She has great comedic timing and could definitely take on more diverse roles.

I adore Poehler’s goofiness. She’s amazing as Angie; an immature, annoying and goofy woman who has bigger dreams than she realizes. But, like in most movies, she grows up just a little in the end.

Kate’s antics and overall obsessive behavior is a little silly at times. She’s incredibly overprotective of Angie which is understandable since she is carrying her baby. But the entire hair dying scene was ridiculous. Another reason why it’s so funny. I can’t imagine many woman forcing someone else under a shower rod because they were attempting to dye their hair blonde.

There’s some fantastic one liners throughout the movie. And not just from the lead actors. The quick lines push the film forward. It’s important to keep people laughing. If they didn’t, then it wouldn‘t be as enjoyable.

The supporting cast also shines. Carl Loomis plays Dax Shepard the jerky common-law husband of Angie’s. He’s not he sweetest man in the world but his character is wickedly humorous. I also enjoyed Greg Kinnear as a juice shop owner and, of course, Steve Martin in a minor but funny role.
